GenAI Policy
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Policy
Akıllı Sistemler ve Uygulamaları Dergisi
The recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technologies—including large language models, code-generation systems, image synthesis tools, and automated data-analysis platforms—are increasingly integrated into research and scholarly writing. As a journal dedicated to intelligent systems and applied AI, we acknowledge both the scientific value and the ethical implications of these technologies. This policy establishes clear guidelines for the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of GenAI in manuscripts submitted to the journal.
Permitted Use of GenAI
Authors may use GenAI tools as assistive technologies for:
-
Language editing and grammar correction
-
Structural organization and formatting
-
Code drafting assistance
-
Preliminary data visualization
-
Literature summarization
-
Algorithm prototyping (with proper validation)
However, GenAI must not replace substantive intellectual contributions. The conceptualization of research questions, methodological design, model development, algorithmic innovation, experimental validation, and interpretation of results must remain the responsibility of human authors.
Authorship and Accountability
Artificial intelligence systems cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship requires intellectual ownership, accountability, and the ability to take responsibility for the integrity of the work—criteria that AI systems cannot fulfill.
If GenAI tools materially contribute to manuscript preparation, authors must include a clearly labeled “AI Usage Statement” specifying:
-
The name and version of the AI tool used
-
The purpose of its use
-
Confirmation that all AI-generated outputs were reviewed, validated, and approved by the authors
Failure to disclose significant AI assistance may constitute a breach of publication ethics.
AI-Generated Content and Data Integrity
GenAI tools must not be used to:
-
Fabricate experimental results
-
Generate synthetic datasets presented as empirical data without disclosure
-
Create fictitious references
-
Manipulate figures or performance metrics
-
Produce misleading benchmark comparisons
All reported results must be reproducible and based on legitimate research methods. Authors are fully responsible for verifying the correctness of AI-assisted code, algorithms, simulations, and statistical analyses.
Given the journal’s focus on intelligent systems, submissions involving AI-generated models must clearly distinguish between:
-
AI used as a research subject
-
AI used as a research tool
-
AI used in manuscript preparation
Transparency in methodology is mandatory.
Reproducibility and Technical Validation
When GenAI tools are used for code generation, model optimization, or data augmentation, authors must:
-
Validate performance results independently
-
Provide sufficient methodological detail for replication
-
Clearly document parameters, architectures, and datasets
-
Disclose any AI-assisted generation of code or model components
Reproducibility remains a fundamental requirement for publication.
Confidentiality and Data Protection
Authors must not input confidential, proprietary, unpublished, or personally identifiable data into public AI systems unless legally authorized. Responsibility for protecting sensitive data rests entirely with the authors.
Editorial Oversight
The editorial board may use AI-detection tools during screening but editorial decisions are made solely by human editors and reviewers. If undisclosed or inappropriate AI use is identified, the journal may initiate corrective action in accordance with its Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement.
Commitment to Responsible AI Scholarship
As a journal specializing in intelligent systems, we support rigorous, ethical research into AI technologies and their applications. However, the use of GenAI in manuscript preparation must remain transparent, ethically sound, and subordinate to human scholarly responsibility. Accountability for all published work rests exclusively with the authors.
By submitting to the Journal of Intelligent Systems with Applications, authors confirm compliance with this Generative AI Policy and accept full responsibility for the integrity, originality, and scientific validity of their work.
